Mohammad Siyam, An Imam Of The Holy Al-Aqsa Mosque

KHARTOUM (Sudanow) - Sheikh Mohammad Siyam, a former imam of the Holy Al-Aqsa Mosque in Al-Quds (Jerusalem) died in Khartoum from a clot in the brain, shortly before midday, Friday.

Sheikh Siyam, also known as the Ambassador of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, was also a former Vice Chancellor of the Islamic University in Gaza, Palestine.

Sheikh Siyam was banished by the Israeli occupation authorities on 28, July, 1988, when he came and settled in the Sudan.

In 1994 Sheikh Siyam and family moved to live in Yemen where he chaired the League of Palestinians in that country and also served as Principal of Sheikh Abdalla Alahmar Institute of Al-Quds Studies therein. He also assumed several positions in Yemen.

But by the outbreak of war in Yemen and the deteriorating security there, he returned to the Sudan where he lived until his death.

Palestinian Historian Usama Alashqar said Sheikh Siyam was a Palestinian roving ambassador and had trodden the Globe explaining the Palestinian cause and collecting donations for the impoverished people of Palestine.

“Sheikh Siyam was an eloquent mosque orator and had a special love for the podium of Al-Aqsa Mosque where he led Friday prayers on some occasions,” said Historian Alashqar.

Sheikh Siyam obtained his PhD degree at Umm Al-Qura University in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, in 1980.

He had published many poetry collections in which the Palestinian people’s struggle against the occupiers forms a central theme. The collections include the following:

-Malhamat Albarae’m (Epic of the Buds).

-Milad Umma (Birth of a Nation).

-Suqoot Alrifaq (the Fallen Comrades).

-Daywan Alintifada (the Uprising (Intifada) Poetry Collection).

-Aleghtiyal Manhaj Alehtilal (Assassination Is Manner of the Occupation)

-Yowm Fi Almukhabarat Ala’ammah (A Day In the General Intelligence Organ).
