ROLE and ACHIEVEMENTS of the ISLAMIC DA'WA and COMPARATIVE STUDIES CENTRE
20 November, 2014Khartoum (SUDANOW) Islamic studies centres are of paramount importance in the propagation of the Moslem faith. These centres can, moreover, preserve the society, the youngsters in particular, from all types of wayward disposition. That is because these centres do fill spare time with useful activity such as Qur’an recitation and memorization , speeches from learned Moslems ; thus narrowing the chance for idle behavior.
For a more in-depth look into such important centres and their marvelous educational role; Sudanow approached the Director of the Islamic Da'wa and Comparative Studies Centre, Dr. Ammar Salih Musa and came out with this interview:
Q: What are the scientific da'wa programmes organized by your centre?
A: The Centre carries out several da'wa (Islamic propagation) programmes that include education courses for students of Sharia'a knowledge and other university students on comparative religious studies , the fight against alien ideas such as atheism and Shiite. These courses are conducted by visiting scholars from Sudan and abroad.
Q: What is the role of the centre in Islamic da'wa in Sudan?
A: The Centre is specialized in the propagation of Islam among non-Moslems and the combating of alien and destructive ideas. For that purpose we had devised short and long term plans and, by Allah's help, we managed to attract a lot of non-Moslems to Islam. It is also worthy of mention that the Centre includes a Moslem-Christian Copts League which is functioning in an excellent manner.
Q: What are the Centre's achievements here and abroad?
A: By Allah's help the Centre has made countless achievements .But to name just a few, we are proud to say that we had managed to attract over 400 coverts to Islam from 19 nationalities so far. We have also managed to qualify a vast number of preachers from both sexes who are now spreading the word of Islam in the correct way. We have also formed the Moslem-Christian Coptic League that now numbers over one thousand. We have also played a big role in defeating the destructive Shiite thought that tries to undermine Islam from within. The Centre has acquired a good reputation abroad and has established strong bonds of cooperation with the Society for the Call for Islam in Egypt, the Moslem World league , the International Authority for the Prophets Sunna(tradition) and the Qatar-based Eed Organization.
Q: What can you say about adherents of other faiths who oppose the punishment of apostates whatever the religion?
A: Islam has ruled the death penalty for those who renounce the faith. The Prophet Mohammad has warned against the spilling of Moslem blood except for (1) adultery (2) homicide (3)apostasy . The four Islamic jurisprudence orders have agreed upon the death penalty for the apostate. However, this ruling should be made by the judiciary and not by anybody else. Its execution should be made by the ruler and not by anybody else. This ruling should not be executed unless certain conditions are met: the apostate should be given a chance to repent. He is given an ultimatum of three days to do so. During that period he is advised by scholars to return to Islam .These scholars should try to remove from his mind any doubts about Islam. If he insists upon his position, he is ordered to by killed.
That the adherents of other religions disapprove of that penalty for apostates signals their indifference towards their religions. That is because apostasy is an assault against the universals of religion. These universals are common in all heavenly religions (namely Islam, Christianity and Judaism).They are: the religion, the soul, the posterity, the mind and the money (property). These are the fundamentals of every society which should be protected. Apostasy is not a mental standpoint. It is a change of allegiance and identity. The apostate transfers his allegiance to another nationhood, another country.
Some infidels pretend to embrace Islam and then quit, just to do wrong to Islam, to dissuade people from it and to confuse weak Moslems.
Again we say that the death penalty is well established in Islam, Christianity and Judaism. In the Deuteronomy book, Chapter 13 of the Bible we find that the apostate should be stoned to death ''by all the people''.
Coptic Orthodox theologian Antonios Fikri had interpreted this chapter in a manner nearly similar to the Moslem interpretation of apostasy and its punishment.
When Jesus came he found the scriptures about the apostate in the Old Testament. He did not annul or replace them, but said:" I did not come to revoke the code''. He consented to all the revelations of the Old Testament. Unfortunately, the Jews and Christians now deny what their regions had stipulated, left it behind and followed man-made codes and constitutions.
Q: What are your efforts in the combat against the christening of Moslems and what are the tactics employed by Christian missionaries to convert Moslems?
A: The Centre organizes courses and lectures, in particular at the universities, to enlighten the youth about the thoughts of Christian missionaries. We also distribute books and brochures on the matter.
Missionaries follow a lot of tactics to draw the youth to Christianity, such as persuasion and the instilling of doubts in them about Islam. But the use of magic is the worst of these tactics. Magic is the most common tactic used by these missionaries, particularly among girls. We have noticed this in girl converts of late.
Q: What are the best methods for challenging the activity of missionaries? And what are the districts most affected by that activity?
A: The most successful method to challenge this activity is the enlightenment of the youth on such designs. The areas that have seen such converts are Khartoum, Darfur, Eastern Sudan and the Blue Nile. The Centre has succeeded in returning a lot of converts back to Islam.
Q: what are your plans for advancing Islamic propagation and linking it to the universities?
A: The call for Islam requires qualified cadres, especially when the target is university students. Here comes the need for devising progressive methods and studies as well as the monitoring and qualifying of cadres. All these require big funds which are contributed by the Government , the Islamic groups and da'wa organizations.
Q: please tell us about your publications and the books you receive from other centres and how you distribute them.
A: The centre distributes books and brochures exposing the dangerous Shiite faith all over the Sudan.
We also have books written in international languages which are distributed to foreign communities in Sudan. All these books are distributed free of charge.
