An agricultural engineer raises the name of the Sudan by his awarding scientific excellence prize in South Korea

Port Sudan (Sudanow)- Everyone bet on his genius, which was evident from an early age when he took his first steps in education. He spoke only the Nubian language and knew nothing of Arabic. Despite this, he ranked first in his class and even in his entire school throughout all his academic stages, including university and beyond. Such excellence and distinction must have been driven by strong motivations, ambitious goals, and an unwavering determination to overcome the impossible.

Sudanow contacted him by phone at his residence in the Saleem area, east of Dongola, to know more about the man behind this achievement. He is Agricultural Engineer Alaa Eldin Idris Hassan Khairi, who explained after welcoming Sudanow and said I was born in the Saleem area in the year 1986.

He studied his basic education at three different schools in the region. For his secondary education, he attended Dongola Model School for Boys. However, after the passing of his father, he transferred to Saleem Joint School to accompany his sister, who was studying there. From there, he moved on to Sudan University of Science and Technology, where he joined the College of Agricultural Sciences.

Dr. Khairi says that his choice of specialization was influenced by growing up in an agricultural environment and his desire to ease the hardships faced by farmers in the region and across Sudan. His focus was on addressing issues related to irrigation, weeds, and improving fertilizer, pesticide systems, and genetic traits (his field of expertise). He aimed to develop new crop varieties or genetically modified organisms, which he eventually achieved. He credits his late father’s encouragement and continuous support for his success, despite the fact that his father did not have the opportunity to pursue formal education.

My mother played both a spiritual and financial role in providing all the necessities for my education. Additionally, my extended family had an influence, as I was inspired by some of its members who had attained advanced degrees in various fields. Their achievements played a role in shaping my future and motivating me to pursue knowledge. Moreover, my ambition and desire to improve my family’s situation and alleviate its hardships drove me to strive diligently and unleash my full potential.

Engineer Khairi says that his brilliance became evident during his foundational education. His teachers would often depend on him to explain certain concepts to sixth-grade students, even though he was only in the second grade at the time. He consistently ranked first in his class despite his limited proficiency in Arabic, which often amused his classmates.
He remembered his teacher, Bashir Mohammed Bashir, who encouraged and supported him, assuring him that he would reach advanced levels in the future and master multiple languages. Indeed, upon returning from Korea, he met with Mr. Bashir confirmed the accuracy of his prediction. He had successfully learned to speak four languages.

After graduating with excellence from the College of Agricultural Sciences, He ranked first in the class in his batch throughout the five years of study and even across all faculties of Sudan University of Science and Technology Dr. Khairi joined the Agricultural Research Center in Wad Madani, Gezira State, as a Research Assistant. However, he effectively performed the duties of a full-fledged researcher, traveling between research stations, despite the fact that all his colleagues who were hired alongside him had undergone training courses before assuming their roles.

He later pursued his postgraduate studies in Korea, where he remarkably ranked first among Korean students, despite the fact that the program was conducted entirely in Korean a language he initially knew nothing about. Yet, through perseverance and determination, he was able to achieve his goals, adding another accomplishment to the legacy of those who preceded him from this great nation.

He awarded a Bachelor of Science with First-Class Honors (Distinction) from the College of Agricultural Studies, Sudan University of Science and Technology in 2010. He then achieved professional proficiency in the Korean language from the Korean Language Institute in South Korea in 2013. Subsequently, he awarded a Master of Science in Molecular Biology from Keimyung University, South Korea, in 2016.

He has a future plan ready to advance agriculture, tourism and scientific research in Sudan
(Alaa El-Din Idris Hassan Khairy) raised Sudan’s name high in the state of South Korea after he went there on a scholarship to study a master’s degree in (molecular biology). From the first moment, he showed his superiority over his peers as he achieved a full grade in the first semester under difficult circumstances, as he is the only Sudanese.

Alaa Eldin caught the attention of his professors at Keimyung University one of the most prestigious universities in South Korea who recognized his exceptional talent. He quickly became the focus of their interest as a prodigy and began accumulating awards, one after another. His journey started with winning first place for the best poster presentation among all Korean universities. He then won the gold medal in the Korean Universities Competition, bringing home the gold for Keimyung University an achievement the university had not attained in 50 years. Notably, he became the first foreigner ever to receive this prestigious award.

Aladdin was classified as the best foreigner in the history of South Korea, as he received the Scientific Excellence Award, thus becoming the first foreigner to receive it. He also graduated with first class distinction and with full marks, superior to all Koreans and foreigners, and became the best foreigner who speaks the Korean language.
