Sudanese Calligrapher Taj al-Sir Hassan's Exhibition In Sharjah
11 November, 2018
Sharjah, UAE (Sudanow) - An exhibition under the title "Colors of the Characters" of Sudanese Calligrapher and Graphic Painter Taj al-sir Hassan was launched in the Calligraphy Museum of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, on November 5.
Hassan is regarded a pioneer of the Arabic calligraphic art in which, before him, the great Sudanese artist Osman Wagiallah has succeeded in inventing a new art that probably went unheeded in the graphic circles when he blended the Arabic characters with the graphic art. The absence of critics and specialized periodicals might have been behind the disregard of Wagiallah accomplishment.
Tracing Wagiallah footsteps, Hassan introduced splendid works that reflected amazing artistic capabilities by using designs based on his own concepts of the classic shapes of the alphabets and a variety of the classic forms of the Arabic calligraphy.
The Colors of the characters exhibition consists of 61 art works in which Hassan amalgamated the traditional style with the modern design in the Arabic calligraphic art. He applied the Islamic culture in his artistic expression, while he was inspired in most of his works in the exhibition by the environment of Sharjah Emirate where he has been residing since 1988.
Hassan has played a major role in the foundation of numerous magazines specialized in Arabic calligraphy and Arabic Language in Dubai city since 2000, plus his contribution to the establishment of the Sharjah Calligraphy Museum.
Viewers of the exhibition included a group of graphic painters and fans of the Arabic calligraphy besides a number of officials and the President of the Board of Directors of the Library of Mohamed bin Rashid al-Maktoum. The exhibition included large and medium-size posters with verses of the Arabic poetry and others of the Gulf and UAE poets as well as Holy Koran verses and Prophet Mohammad's Hadith, all colored and written on pieces of cloth or sheets of paper.
The exhibition lasts till December 5th.
Hassan graduated at the Fine Arts College of Khartoum in 1977 with an experience of 41 years in his graphic art specialization. The exhibition is aimed at demonstrating the beauty of the various types of the Arabic calligraphy.
