Media Briefed On National Economic Conference

KHARTOUM (Sudanow) – The Information Committee of the National Economic Conference held a briefing for the media on Saturday at the Sudan News Agency head office in Khartoum.

Economic Advisor of the Prime Minister, Dr. Adam Hiraika, briefed the media on the current economic situation in the Sudan and the challenges it faces as well as the conference’s objectives, organizational structure, themes and programs.

Hiraika said the conference, held this month of March 29-31, would be an opportunity for the government, civil society organizations, economic and social research entities to hold a genuine and transparent dialogue on the country’s urgent economic requirements and to reach a consensus on how to resolve them.

Sectors’ workshops and symposia will start on March 22 prior to the conference which is held under the motto of (Towards Comprehensive Reform and Sustainable Economic Development). The outcome of these sideline activities will be streamlined within the conference contents, Hiraika said.

He said the conference would hold seven sessions to first discuss the goals of the conference, the general democratic and development structure of the state, the Transitional Government program, potential production, export and job opportunities, subsidies, monetary policies, payment balance and economic stability. The seventh session of the conference will be devoted for the recommendations and road map for implementation.    

Hiraika stressed the necessity for implementation of the conference’s outcome in order to uproot the deformities left by the defunct regime and to enable Sudan to play a leading role in its regional area and the world.

Chairperson of the Conference’s Information Committee cum General Director of the Sudan News Agency, Mohamed Abdul Hameed, underscored the important role of the media in highlighting the current economic challenges that face the country during this critical period. He stressed that the conference would contribute with practical solutions for the country’s economic crisis .
