Sudanese Wins Arab Reading Challenge (ARC) Top Prize

KHARTOUM (Sudanow) - Sudanese student Ms. Hadeel Anwar Alzubair topped millions of contesters from around the Arab region, winning The Arab Reading Challenge (ARC) first prize.
In addition to the moral victory, Ms. Hadeel has won the contest’s financial prize of half a million United Arab Emirates (UAE) Dirham (One US Dollar equals 3.67 Emirati Dirham).
The Arab Reading Challenge (ARC) is the largest-ever Arab literacy initiative. Launched by UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to encourage students to read, the ARC challenges students to read as many books as possible (over 50) in one academic year, according to the contest’s organizers.
The challenge is an Arabic reading competition with participating students from grades 1 to 12 from schools across the Arab world. The competition starts every year in September until the end of March. Students work through five stages of the competition reading ten books and summarizing their content. Upon completion of the reading and summarizing, the final stage of elimination commences according to the set criteria. The eliminations are done amongst schools, education zones and Arab countries until the finals which are held annually in Dubai in October.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum greeted Hadeel and the Sudanese People saying: “A thousand congratulations to the People of Sudan. You have a bright future ahead through your ambitious, educated and diligent generations.”
“We today honored the champions of the fourth edition of the Arab Reading Challenge who reached this victory from among over 13 million male and female students and out of these special honor goes to student Hadeel Anwar Alzubair from Sudan, the country of love and culture who won the first prize, “ he said.
Ms. Hadeel’s victory has stirred the social media waves with congratulations and joy with participants considering her victory a good omen for the country under the civilian government.
Ms. Eiman Ali tweeted on Twitter that: “Honestly speaking, Hadeel deserves the title. Congratulations Hadeel... Congratulations Sudan!”
Another participant tweeted that: “Hadeel! You have brought joy to the Sudan at a time when we really needed this joy!”
