Folklore Professor Nasr Guest Of Honor At Sharjah Narrator Forum

SHARJAH, UAE (Sudanow) - Sudanese Professor of Folklore Ahmed Abdelraheem Nasr has been announced as the Guest of Honour at the Sharjah International Narrator Forum, September 22-30.
Prof Nasr was honored for his wide research in Sudanese folklore that materialized lots of important books in this field.
He is a leading figure in the documentation of the Sudanese Cultural Heritage. In this he was co-founder in 1964 of the University of Khartoum’s Sudanese Studies Department that in 1972 developed into the Afro-Asian Institute. Accordingly the Department was named “the Folklore Section” at the Institute. Prof. Nasr continues as a lecturer at this Section.
The Folklore Section has published over forty books tackling the customs and traditions of the different Sudanese tribes.
The section has also collected a big sum of the music of Nuba peoples of South Kordofan Region, the musical heritage of the Berti and Angassana tribes of the Blue Nile region, the Fur tribe music (Darfur) and that of the Baggara (west), the Nubian and Shaygiyya tribes of Northern Sudan.
The Section’s activity also included the collection of the musical heritage of the Balanda tribe of Southern Sudan and the traditional coronation of the Shiluk Reth (Godly King) of Upper Nile, Southern Sudan also.
The Section has a museum housing lots of heritage items from all over Sudan, in particular those classified by folklorists as material Heritage.
Professor Nasr’s writings are characterized with precision and a celebration of the Sudanese society’s cultural diversity. He has also published writings documenting the Arab heritage, in particular that of the Gulf Region.
The annual Forum was organized by the Sharja Institute of Heritage under the auspices of the Sharja Emirate Ruler, Sheikh Sultan Al Gasimi.
ssome 38 countries have participated in the event which was organized under the theme "Tales of Animals”.
