KHARTOUM (Sudanow) - The US Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin has renewed his country’s support for the economic reform programme implemented by the civilian led government.
A statement by the Treasury Department on Friday said Mnuchin held a call on Thursday with Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok where the two sides discussed the negotiations on an agreement on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and the need for good faith and political will among all parties to reach a final agreement.
The release said Secretary Mnuchin expressed his appreciation for the constructive role Prime Minister Hamdok has played in GERD negotiations.
It added that Sudan and the USA officials also discussed Sudan’s economic reform agenda and AML/CFT (Anti-Money Laundering/Combating the Financing of Terrorism) efforts, and Secretary Mnuchin reiterated his support for the civilian-led transitional government’s commitment to respecting human rights, fighting corruption, and reforming Sudan’s economy.
