Sudan Removed From US Religious Freedom Blacklist

KHARTOUM (Sudanow) - The United States on Friday lifted Sudan from a blacklist for religious freedom violations.
Sudan was the only nation removed from the State Department's annual list of "countries of particular concern," which are subject to sanctions if they do not better protect religious liberty.
In a comment to the state TV Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments Nasr Eddin Mufarrih said: We did no more than returning Sudan to the period before 1989 when nobody complained from religious discrimination and when there was no religious problem in the country.
"The US decision was expected after Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok's recent visit to Washington," he said.
Hamdok visited Washington, heading a delegation of ministers of defense, justice, youth and sports, and religious affairs, as part of Sudan's efforts to normalize relations with the United States.
Sudan is still on the US list of state sponsors of terrorism.
