Second COVID-19 Case Confirmed In Sudan

KHARTOUM (Sudanow) - A new COVID-19 case was confirmed in Sudan on Friday when a 40-year old alien was diagnosed positive for coronavirus. 

This is the second case in Sudan so far according to Dr. Akram Ali Altoom, the Minister for Health.

The first positive case was announced on Friday March 13 when a 50-year old Sudanese citizen, who had visited the UAE earlier, died.

The Minister said the man, who works with an international organization, entered the Sudan last week. He is now in a good health. Still he, along with his family, were confined to their home the minister said, adding they are provided with the required medical assistance. He said the organization is notified and those who were in touch with him have been informed to take precautionary measures. 

The Governor of Khartoum state on Friday issued directives to inhibit any gathering or public assembly, including demonstrations, shisha smoking, religious ceremonies, wedding halls, video watching clubs and crowd attracting sport events.

On the national level the government authorities suspended entry and issuance of visas for citizens hailing from countries devastated by the Coronavirus, while at the same time telling its citizens to avoid travelling to those countries except for utmost urgency. 

Flights to those countries had been suspended and the crossing points between the Sudan and Egypt were closed down until further notice. 

All schools and universities were closed for a month and quarantine measures were implemented.

Last Monday the state of health emergency was declared in the country to face any probable increase in coronavirus infection.
