PortSudan(Sudanow)- Medical personnel have excelled regionally and continentally in performing many complex surgeries, with Sudan taking the lead in this field. Dr. Omar Beleel, late, performed the first successful kidney transplant in Africa and the Arab world on a Gulf patient in Sudan in 1972. This was followed by other operations within Sudan, including open-heart surgery, liver transplantation, and separation of conjoined twins.
In a medical achievement that is the first of its kind in Gedaref State, eastern Sudan, Dr. Mohamed Hassan Mohamed, a specialist in kidney and urology surgery, in collaboration with the distinguished medical team at Rawan Care Clinic, performed the first PCNL (Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy) procedure to break up and extract kidney stones without open surgery (via endoscopy and laser).

This procedure is considered one of the latest and most precise techniques for treating large and complex kidney stones, allowing for faster patient recovery and reducing complications associated with traditional surgery. The procedure was successfully performed, receiving widespread medical and public acclaim, representing a qualitative development in healthcare services in the region.
This achievement is the result of collaboration between the private and public sectors, where an agreement was reached in coordination with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance in the state to provide the necessary modern equipment and devices to regularly perform such operations at Gedaref Hospital for Kidney Diseases and Surgery in the coming period.
This achievement marks the beginning of a new path of local medical progress, towards comprehensive and high-quality healthcare. It also represents a step forward in Sudan's journey towards development and achievement, overcoming the crises left by war, destruction, and devastation, and demonstrating its ability to overcome them with determination, willpower, and a desire to move forward in all fields.
This is considered a qualitative shift in decentralizing medical services from the capital to the rest of the states, and strengthening the health system.
