Sudanese Mohamed Adam Shines In Australian Premier League

Mohamed Adam, Forward of the Australian Western Sydney Wanderers football team, has been promoted to the clubs first squad after shining with the club’s youth team.

Adam was part of the 2017-18 Youth League championship winning Western Sydney Wanderers Youth Team.

He started and played 63 minutes as they beat Melnourtne City Youth 3-1 in the 2018 Y-League Grand Final on 3 February 2018.

On 7 August 2019, Adam made his professional debut against Perth Glory in the 2019 FFA Cup, scoring the opening goal as the Wanderers won 2-1 in extra-time. He was subsequently awarded with a contract with the club on 9 August 2019, signing a two-year scholarship deal with the Wanderers.

On 23 September 2019, Adam was awarded the Wanderer's Youth Team Player of the Year having scored 21 goals in 21 games in their NPL NSW 2 campaign.

Adam had also won the best player award the previous season.

Born in Sudan in 2000, Adam had started with the youth football academy. Then he moved to the Western Sydney Wanderers youth team before he was promoted to the Club’s first division team.

The nascent Western Sydney Wanderers (founded in 2012) had very swiftly jumped atop the Australian football, also winning the Asian Champions League Cup in 2014, when it wrestled out the title from holders the giants Saudi Arabian Alhilal.

Adam had made an uphill fight to reach this feat, when he as a child migrated with his family first to Egypt and then took asylum status in Australia.

“I feel very honoured, it is a childhood dream come true,” Adam said about his success.

“I’ve had a lot of guidance from players like Pirmin Schwegler and Raddy Majewski and the coaches – Markus (Babbel), JP (Jean-Paul de Marigny), Labi (Labinot Haliti), Arthur Diles and Ian Crook. There is a really good support network around me.
