Sudanow Extends Ramadan Greetings

Khartoum – (Sudanow)

The Muslim world is preparing to welcome the holy month of Ramadan amid a spirit of faith and devotion that resonates across nations. On this occasion, the editorial team of Sudanow magazine extends its heartfelt congratulations to Muslims everywhere, and to the Sudanese people in particular, praying that the month returns with goodness, blessing, security, and stability, and that it brings victory, empowerment, and relief from hardship to Muslims worldwide, uniting them upon the truth.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is regarded as the holiest month in Islam. Fasting during this month is a religious obligation with profound spiritual and social dimensions, rooted in preceding nations, as referenced in the Qur’anic verse: “O you who believe, fasting has been prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you” (Al-Baqarah: 183). Muslims abstain from food and drink from dawn until sunset, while Islamic law provides exemptions for those with legitimate excuses, allowing them to compensate through Fidya (expiatory feeding)—reflecting the principles of mercy and ease within Islamic teachings.

The month of Ramadan is also associated with pivotal events in Islamic history, most notably the Great Battle of Badr, which took place on the 17th of Ramadan and marked a decisive turning point in consolidating the foundations of the early Islamic state during the era of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Ramadan is further known as the “Month of the Qur’an,” as it commemorates the revelation of the Holy Qur’an, particularly on Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Decree), which is described as better than a thousand months.

According to Islamic tradition, Ramadan is distinguished by numerous virtues, including the opening of the gates of Paradise, the closing of the gates of Hell, and the chaining of devils. It is a season of forgiveness, mercy, repentance, and spiritual renewal.
Muslims observe special nightly Taraweeh prayers and are required to pay Zakat al-Fitr before the Eid al-Fitr prayer, which falls on the 1st of Shawwal, marking the conclusion of the holy month.

Religious scholars emphasize that Ramadan represents an annual opportunity to reinforce values of solidarity, compassion, patience, discipline, and piety—reflecting the profound spiritual and social objectives of this sacred observance.
