Khartoum triumphs at the conclusion of the Elite League

Khartoum, (Sudanow)_ Until recently, Khartoum Stadium was under the fire of war, in the middle of a volatile area. Because of its geographical location, it sits in a district packed with universities, markets, bus terminals, and high-rise buildings, whose facades still bear the marks of war. Yet in a short time, the process of bringing the stadium back to life was completed, so it could host the most important post-war event: the Elite League final, featuring the famous Omdurman derby (Al-Hilal vs Al-Merrikh). On that day, Khartoum Stadium, with its capacity of 23,000 spectators, was filled to the brim in a scene some had not expected, disproving the saying that “Khartoum is empty.”
The derby was held, and the will for peace, reassurance, and reconstruction triumphed over war, panic, and destruction.
The scene was awe-inspiring, in afternoon heat approaching 50 degrees, with the ongoing fallout of the war still present. The crowds gathered and endured all of that willingly. With wonderful, meticulous organization, events unfolded as they should. In the end, Al-Hilal lifted the championship trophy, and Khartoum itself emerged victorious, rising to rejoin the ranks of world capitals and great cities.
It is worth noting that Khartoum Stadium was inaugurated in 1957, and is regarded as the spiritual father of all stadiums in Sudan. It also hosted the first Africa Cup of Nations tournament in 1957, at the founding of the Confederation of African Football.
