OBITUARY: International Runner Mussa Jouda

KHARTOUM (Sudanow) - Sudanow Magazine announces the death of former Sudanese international runner Mussa Jouda in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday.
He is considered an outstanding Sudanese athletic champion who won for his country numerous international and regional medals, the most famous of which was the gold medal that he won in the third world military championship in Florida, the United States of America.
Late Jouda was born in 1958 in Adror village, Malha Locality, North Darfur. He began his military career as a corporal in the Armed Forces Parachute corps. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in recognition of his performance in the Florida Championship. In 1982 late Jouda was appointed as a military attaché in the Sudan embassy in Germany, then he joined the Saudi Arabian Ittihad sports club as an athletics coach until his death.
Among the numerous medals and certificates the late long-distance runner won during his sports life were the silver medal in the military championship in Rome, Italy, in 1980, the first place in 1981 in the Khartoum international championship in which 32 countries participated, a certificate from the World Athletics Union for achieving the first place in the 5,000-meter race. He also got a certificate from the Arab Athletics Union for coming first in the 10,000-meter race and another certificate from the Arab Union for coming fourth in the 5,000-meter race.
Late Jouda won the fifth place in the 1984 Los Anglese Olympic Games which was the first Arab achievement.
Jouda and champions Kisheef and Khalifa Omar took part in several Arab championships in the United Arab Emirates and Tunisia where they won several gold medals.
Jouda said in a press interview that his long-distance records have not yet been broken by any Sudanese athlete.
The late champion was accorded obituary by the Sudanese Athletics Union and the Saudi Arabian Ittihad Sports Club as well as several sports sites and sports-people for his prominent achievements.
He was married and was survived by two daughters and a son.
