FFC to send delegations to 6 countries to explain the framework agreement
28 December, 2022Khartoum, Dec.28 (Sudanow)-The leaders of the Forces of Freedom and Change ( FFC) coalition, the largest opposition faction in Sudan, are preparing to send delegations on a foreign tour to a number of Arab and African countries to mobilize regional support for the "framework political agreement" that the coalition signed on the 5th of this month with the army leaders, and aims to establish a civilian-led government woman will manage a 24-month transitional period, ending with holding parliamentary elections.
A member of the Central Council of the coalition, Sharif Muhammad Osman, told reporters that a delegation from the coalition will start a foreign tour in early January to visit Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Ethiopia, Chad and the Republic of South Sudan with the aim of discussing ways to support the "framework agreement" and contribute to supporting reaching a final agreement to end the current political crisis in Sudan. Osman indicated that the Communication and Foreign Relations Committee of the FFC coalition is making the necessary arrangements to name the persons who will lead the delegations to those countries.
Saudi Arabia and the UAE participate in the "Quartet Mechanism", which also includes the United States and Britain, in leading the mediation between the military and civilians, which made a major breakthrough in the political impasse in Sudan, by reaching understandings between the army commanders and the FFC leaders, which ended with the signing of the "Framework Agreement". » Which is scheduled to turn into a final agreement after addressing some outstanding issues.
It is planned that the leaders of the "Freedom and Change" will meet with officials in those countries to inform them of the latest developments in Sudan, with the aim of reaching a final agreement, which is expected to be announced at the end of next January.
The "framework agreement" paves the way for ending the military's assumption of power since October 2021.
The "coalition" began preparing to hold workshops on major issues that need further discussion before reaching a final agreement, which will be launched in the coming days, with the wide participation of stakeholders.
The “framework agreement” stipulated that the army would move away from political action, and the “rapid support” forces and the armed movements that signed the “Juba Agreement” would be merged into a unified national army, and all armies would be placed under the authority of the civilian head of state. The framework agreement finds opposition from the “Justice and Equality” movement led by Jibril Ibrahim and the “Sudan Liberation Movement” led by Minni Arko Minawi, along with the Communist Party and the “Resistance Committees”.
Meanwhile, demonstrations took place yesterday in the capital, Khartoum, and other cities, calling for civilian rule and the army's removal from politics in order to devote itself to its security duties .The resistance committees, which lead the popular movement, had called for a million-man march yesterday heading to the Republican Palace.
The authorities preempted it by closing a number of bridges linking the capital's triangular cities (Khartoum, Bahri, and Omdurman) and deploying hundreds of soldiers and armored vehicles at the main entrances. The resistance committees demand that the army withdraw from power and return to the barracks, and the formation of a civilian government, and reject any negotiation or partnership that gives the military legitimacy to continue in power.
