Sudan’s National Team Gets New Manager, The French Hubert Velud
06 February, 2020KHARTOUM (Sudanow) - The Sudan Football Association (SFA) on Wednesday sealed a contract with the French Coach Hubert Velud to manage the country’s National Team for two years.
Mr. Velud, 60, is to coach the Sudan National Team following his departure from JS Kabayle of Algeria in mid season 2019-2020.
As a player Mr. Velud played for Reims, Chalons-sur-Marne.
He coached Châlons-sur-Marne, Gap, Paris FC, Gazélec Ajaccio, Clermont, Cherbourg, Créteil, Toulon, Beauvais. He also managed the Togo national football team from 2009 to 2010.
Velud was shot in the arm in an attack by Angolan rebels while traveling with Togo's national football team to the 2010 African Cup of Nations, according to Wikipidia.
Following the contract signing ceremony, Mr. Velud said he was “happy to manage the Sudan National Team in the coming stage.”
“I know quite a lot about the Sudan National Team,” he added.
Mr. Velud said his job is to elevate the Sudan National Team to the finals of African Cup of Nations.
“My coming job is to take the Sudan National Team to the finals of the African Cup of Nations in 2021,” he said.
Manager Velud is replacing the Croatian Logarich, whose contract has expired with the Sudanese side.
Sudan’s team ranks second in Group B in the ongoing African Cup of Nations primarie, a group that also includes South Africa, Ghana and Saw tome.
The same day the SFA also sealed contracts with the Algerian Muneer Lohbab to coach the country’s national youth teams and the Algerian A’ayat Abdelmalik as lecturer in the Association’s technical committee.
