Germany Donates 80 Million Euros For Infrastructure And Fuel In Sudan

KHARTOUM (Sudanow) - Sudanese and German relations are currently witnessing noticeable boom with senior government officials from the two sides exchanging visits and making promises of improving the bilateral relations.
The hectic activities were spurred the visit of the German Foreign Minister to the Sudan, the first ever by a European senior official after the success of the popular uprising that ended the rule of Omar Bashir, April 2019. He paid a visit to Khartoum and toured the areas where the revolutionaries were crushed and the areas where they used to camp and lead demonstrations against Bashir.
He promised to lure in German support for the young revolution in the Sudan and provide material assistance to the Sudan overcome the economic hardship it faces at present.
Early this week the German Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development, Dr Gerd Müller paid a lengthy visit to the Sudan where he met with almost every senior official and minister with the aim of understating the situation in the Sudan.
Müller has announced that Germany will provide an assistance of about 80 million Euros to the Sudanese transitional government, to be invested in fuel and energy and infrastructures.
In the meantime the German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said she will be holing a meeting with Sudanese Prime Minister, Dr. Abdalla Hamdouk, during a visit the prime minister is making to Germany next week, German and Sudanese media reported on Sunday.
On the other had the German presidency has announced that the Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will visit the Sudan, within a tour that takes him to Kenya as well, from February 23 to 28, 2020.
The German government said the Federal President would be getting a firsthand feeler about the political and social new beginning after decades of the dictatorship.
“The first visit of a Federal President to Sudan since 1985 is a sign of solidarity and support for the country's further transformation,” statement issued by the German presidency said.
