Sudanese House Books reopens its doors again| Sudanow Magazine

Khartoum ( Sudanow) In praise worth scene summed up story of retuning life to Sudanese capital Khartoum, among rubble of destroyed building, burned cars and demolished vehicles by barbarism militia of Rapid Support Forces, our camera documented a wonderful image worth to contemplation to 10-years old child named Belgees Saba Majdee , while raising her small hand to catch a coloring book from one of the shelves and open its white decorated with drawings pages , as if , she revives life back within the walls of the Sudanese Book House, which witnessed largest book massacre in modern times, when hundreds of thousands of books and references were burned and destroyed by the Tatars of Africa. But in spite of that , Sudanese House Books ( B H B) reopened its doors partially to Book Lovers in its headquarter in middle of Khartoum after being forced to close for two years.

‘’ Before war , this institution included about 2 million book and more than 55,000 titles in various specialties ‘’ said with a sadly face director of (BSH) Ahmad Makkawie and added unfortunately most of them were lost during war period. And asserted this reopening to (S H B) is a glimmer of hope and main factor for Sudanese for reconstruction what was destroyed.

Details of the tragedy story came in Facebook post wrote by daughter’s founder Soad Abdallh Makkawi included’’ Dear father, I send you this message , May God have mercy on you and to tell you that all what you have established in decades of effort, plans and thought were burned in few minutes . God has been kind to you because you are not alive when this all destruction that happened to all libraires in Khartoum.

It's worth noting that Mr. Abdullah Makkawi established SHB Publishing House in 1969, which has provided Sudanese culture with hundreds of books and literary and scientific publications. The news was widely circulated among a large number of writers and intellectuals, given to the dark record of barbaric acts which committed by the Rapid Support Forces militia.

The scene of small child Belgees movement between bookshelves , same as a bee in a garden which sipped the nectar of flowers. It is not only a scene of a book in hands of child but a silent declaration that knowledge is invincible and children’s innoncence able to restore life to culture while war and politics failed. While the war tried to close the doors of libraries, a small hand came to open a window of hope, confirming that the story is not over yet, and that future generations still hold the keys to tomorrow, because books may be burned, but thought does not break, and the house may close, but the hope for a better tomorrow remains.
