Sudanese Wins International Award in Creativity and Innovation

Sudanese artisan Ahmed Hassan Mohamed Mofreh has won one of the the first prizes in the 3rd Tabriz International Festival for Islamic Arts, Crafts and Creativity, organized in Iran during May 6-13.
Mofreh has obtained the first prize in the field of Straw, Tikar, Baskets, Leather and Bamboo.
He participated in the Festival, in which 33 countries participated, with a number of items made of genuine leather including bags, Arabic sofas, shoes and a design representing Bajrawia pyramids of ancient Sudanese civilization. The latter won him the first prize.
The Festival is jointly organized every two years by the Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA), Istanbul, and Tabriz University for Islamic Arts and Islamic Culture and Relations Organizations of Iran.
The aim of the Award is to draw attention on an important aspect of the cultural heritage and make it known at international and regional levels; as well as bringing together the works of artisans from distant and different regions, stimulating crafts people's creativity in this field and make them feel the importance that is attached to their works by the community so as to preserve this fertile heritage.
