Two Sudanese Footballers Shortlisted For Africa’s Player Of The Year
02 November, 2017
Sawi, Sheghail
KHARTOUM (Sudanow) - Sudanese midfield players al-Sammani Saadeddin al-Sawi and Nasreddin Ahmad al-Sheghail were nominated by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to run for the title of Africa’s best home-based player in 2017, the Sudanese newspapers reported Thursday, quoting the CAF website.
Twenty eight other players were nominated for the prize from around the Continent.
The CAF said the list of 30 players was decided by the performance of these men in the African Champions League and the African Confederation cup.
Sammani plays for the giants al-Mirrikh of Omdurman (Khartoum State), while Sheghail plays for Hilal al-Obied of al-Obied City in the mid-west.
Sammani has shone as a playmaker–scorer, with high maneuvering skills. Tall and powerful, Sheghail is skillful in building a solid fortress in front of his team’s defenses and often helping with excellent passes for the team forwards.
The winner will be decided by votes from the Head Coaches/Technical Directors of the National Associations affiliated to CAF, members of the CAF Technical and Development Committee and a panel of Media Experts, according to the CAF.
The Awards Gala will be held on Thursday, 4 January 2018 in Accra, Ghana.
The list of contenders also includes Achraf Bencharki (Morocco & Wydad Athletic Club), Ahmad Fathi (Al-Ahly Egypt), Ayman Majid (Morocco & FUS Rabat), Aymen Mathlouthi (Tunisia & Etoile du Sahel) and Ben Malango (DR Congo & TP Mazembe).
The contest will be run parallel to CAF’s more prestigious contest for the African player of the year for which another 30 players were nominated. This list contains players based outside their countries. The contest will be held at the same time, the same place, in Accra also.
