The Importance of Modern Technology as the Country Enters a Phase of Reconstruction and Development

A commendable step by the "Government of Hope" is its commitment to increasing reliance on modern technologies across various state institutions. Digital transformation, in particular, stands out as a fundamental pillar contributing to the reshaping of public services and, consequently, fueling economic growth.
With this introduction, economic expert Dr. Haitham Mohamed Fathi began his remarks to Sudanow, stating that the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Communications—through its strategic plans already in motion—aims to raise the contribution of the ICT sector to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), while enhancing transparency and supporting anti-corruption efforts.
Today, the Sudanese government is striving to digitize all public services to accelerate the digital transformation process. In 2025, it expanded the electronic provision of many services, a visible effort that included enhancing the e-government portal and implementing integrated digital platforms.
However, a major challenge remains: cybersecurity. It forms the core of any digital transformation strategy, especially regarding the protection of citizens' and institutions’ data. The current situation in Sudan is still limited from a cybersecurity perspective, necessitating a robust legislative and regulatory framework that is more modern and comprehensive than previous models.
In Dr. Fathi’s assessment, there are promising beginnings. Key initiatives expected from the ministry include a unified complaints platform, an initiatives portal, a transparent government procurement system, performance indicator systems (KPIs), and specialized technical training for state employees.
In conclusion, Dr. Haitham notes that integrating digital automation into government departments will streamline operations, mitigate the bureaucracy of previous years, and resolve problems more effectively.
The adoption of digital activities is evidence that the state is regaining its vitality. The path of reconstruction begins with restoring trust, activating services, and empowering citizens with modern tools. It is an explicit declaration that technology has become a primary pillar of national revival and an effective tool in crisis management, at a time when digitization has become the primary language of the global economy.
