23 September, 2018
KHARTOUM (Sudanow) - Sudanow magazine mourns to the Sudanese community and women in particular the untimely death of Dr. Haja Kashif, the pioneer and vanguard in the struggle for social, political, economic and human rights equality as early as the country’s independence in the early 1950s.
Dr. Haja Kashif passed away last Friday, after a life full of achievements and struggle, a life she devoted for safeguarding women rights in education, work and voting in elections.
The Late Haja was one of the founders of the Sudanese Women Union in the second half of last century, setting the foundations for the gains Sudanese women are currently enjoying.
She graduated in the University of Khartoum, Faculty of Arts.
Dr. Haja Kashif was one of the first contributors in the first woman mouthpiece, known as Sawt Al Maraa (Woman Voice) and the official organ of the Sudanese Women Union which played a significant role spurring anti-colonial sentiment and contributed to kick it out of the country.
She authored a book about Sudanese women movement, a book that has become since then the main reference in the field, and another two books.
