Gigantic Ajjour Vegetable Thought Qualified For Guinness World Records

KHARTOUM (Sudanow) - A farm in the Sudan has produced a bafflingly big ajjourr vegetable many agronomists and famers said it would sure hit the Guinnes records in this species.
Ajjour is the local name in Sudan for the Armenian cucumber.
The farm owner said his produce is not genetically modified and was grown naturally without the use of chemical fertilizers. It is just fertile soil and natural water that gave this outcome, he said.
The fruit nearly out sizes a grownup kid as the photo can tell.
Ajjour is a salad vegetable in the Sudan and is used with tomato and a combination of other vegetables to give an appetizing dish served with meals around the country.
It is also sliced in small pieces and mixed with yogurt and spices to give a nice dish preferred in the fasting month of Ramadan particularly.
Sliced ajjour mixed with lemon and pepper is also relished by school kids as a snack.
The ajjour, or Armenian cucumber is a type of long, slender fruit which tastes like a cucumber and looks somewhat like a cucumber inside. It is a creepy vegetable with yellow flowers and lobated leaves.
It is actually a variety of muskmelon (C. melo), a species closely related to the cucumber (C. sativus). It is also known as the yard-long cucumber, snake cucumber, snake melon, uri in Japanese, Acur in Turkish, Kakri in Hindi, and Tar in Punjabi. It should not be confused with the snake gourds (Trichosanthes spp.). The skin is very thin, light green, and bumpless. It has no bitterness and the fruit is almost always used without peeling. It is also called a "gutah" and “faggoos” in the Middle East.
Horticulturists say ajjour can grow year round in the Sudan, preferably in the summer and autumn. It can also flourish in winter, given pest control.
A lot of ajjour varieties grow in Sudan and each variety takes the name of the geographical area where it is produced. We speak about the White Nile, Bule Nile, Kosti, Jumooe’yya and gadambaliyya ajjour etc…
Though produced in big quantities in Sudan, ajjour can not be exported by land to consumers outside the country. This is due to its short shelf life. Thus the result, exporters now tend to ship it by aircraft to the Gulf Region.
Ajjour is easy to digest. It also helps purify blood from impurities and dissolves urine acids. It also helps with constipation due to its content of fibers. Because of its high content of water, it is also a used as diuretic.
Ajjour is used as a mask for skin care and for the treatment of face freckles.
