Mohamed Abdul Hai

Sudanese renowned poet, critic and university professor, the late Mohamed Abdul Hai (1944-1989), has been selected by the Ministry of Culture to stand as the Person of Khartoum International Book Fair in its current convening, 13th session 2017.
Speakers at the celebration organized at the Fair in honor of the poet’s family, described Dr. Abdul Hai as a genius who succeeded in institutionalizing a new way of composing poetry in an altogether antagonizing environment and who enriched his writings with a deep knowledge of the British, American and Romantic poetry.
Abdul Hai produced numerous poetry books, criticism, and anthology beside hundreds of public lectures. He also supervised countless thesis studies in Khartoum and in London and other areas around the globe.
Abdul Hai laid the foundation for many cultural institutions including Culture Corporation which was developed later on to be a ministry, Centre for Child Culture, Puppet Theatre and many other cultural establishments and festivals.
In recognition of Abdul Hai’s outstanding cultural and poetic contributions, the Ministry of Culture said it would shoulder printing and publication of all his writings while lecturing hall at the Faculty of Arts, University of Khartoum, where the poet was a lecturer, will be named after him.
