No Limits To Success

Mohamed Eyhab Jaafar is the first Sudanese who succeeded in securing the karate yellow belt, albeit being diagnosed with the down syndrome.

According to the Director of Sudan Centre for Down Syndrome, Ms. Ibtihaj Mohamed Ouhaj, Mohamed, 16, won the belt after he excelled in 21 moves, known as the kata in Japanese language. He is preparing for obtaining the orange belt.

According to his mentors, Mohamed is also good in bocci, bowling, shot put and weightlifting games as well as acting, Ibtihal said.

Mohamed’s achievement is particularly significant given the fact that down syndrome – children are characterized by weak body structure and a relatively low IQ.

Ibithal attributed his success to sustained support and assistance extended by his family and the centre.
