Sudanow: Dr Al Fatih Hussein let us begin with the activities of the Khartoum International Festival which will kick off today Sunday at the Friendship Hall, what is this festival and what is its nature in the first place?
Dr Fatih: In reality this festival which kicks off on Sunday, resumes an activity that was in full blossomfor ten years. This is a great work behind which stands a great person, the Minister for Culture Samawal Khalalaf.
And with him a great number of Sudanese troupes participating in the festival, those are the people who exerted tremendous effort to revive this festival and in which some seven international bands are taking part including from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Britain, and France and other nations.
This is a festival that will continue day and night and in which thirty five troupes will set alight the nights of Khartoum, with great Sudanese singers actively engaged. There is no doubt about it, this is a qualitative piece of work that would contribute immensely in spreading and disseminating Sudanese music culture and vice versa.
Sudanow: but does this festival reflect your aspirations in so far as the dissemination of Sudanese culture is concerned around us?
Dr Fatih: yes this is the type of festival that will help in spreading the music culture among states and people. It would be a chance to permeate and spread our own music but will equally furnish us with the chance to see what others have, through participation and through joint work that we would be carrying out with other troupes such as our intention to work with a British band.
Sudanow: - As this is an international gathering and in which international troupes are taking part, will this be of added value to the Sudanese music or musical activities?"
Dr Fatih: No doubt about it, these types of festivals would help in developing and provide a chance for musician to make their voice be heard internationally and it would ultimately reflect in the development of the Sudanese music. And you know music help people know each other and it is one of the most successful tools for remedy of many a social woes
Sudanow: but what is exactly the role played by the ministry of Culture for the success of this festival?
Dr Fatih: It suffices to say that the ministry of Culture has helped with the revival and vigorous return of this festival once again in our musical life, after it remained dormant for year. Many people including the ministry and its leader the Minister of Culture, stand behind the this festival. Many people are involved including artists, people interested in culture and culture people. It suffices to say that the Ministry of Culture has helped with the various needs of the troupes and has furthermore prepared the various theaters to host this big event.
Sudanow: Dr Fatih tell us about your own contribution in the festival?
Dr Fatih: We will take part in this gathering with a kids band: Dr Fatih Band for Children which is the only kids band in the country. This is our first participation in such a huge gathering. I will also be taking part with my own main band which will take place on the 22nd of this month at the Omdurman National Theater. We will have a joint programme with the British Band.
Sudanow: how did you come to compose this kids band?
DrFatih: this band was formed from students studying in the Music Institute, here. There were fifty of them, boys and girls, we opted to select the most talented amongst them whose age rank between eight to fourteen years, namely kid Mohamed Murdhada Abul Moneim who lives in quarter 8 in Omdurman who plays the drum, kid Reem Ghareeb Allah who lives in Bahari Shambat area and she hails from a well known talented family and she is only thirteen year ole, she plays the Guitar. Then we have kid Munzir Aballah Khalid who lives in Jabra area in Khartoum and he is eight year old and he plays Piano. Of course we will add up the most talented persons to this band. But all in all this is a band that has a great future ahead of it and we wish them best luck during this festival.
