Khartoum, (sudanow.info.sd)-President Omer Al-Bashir, will address at the Friendship
Hall the opening sitting of the 34th Conference of the African Parliamentary Union, set for Wednesday
amid massive parliamentary participation including 27 African parliaments and some 11 regional and
international organizations as observers.
The session will also be addressed by Speaker of the Parliament, Ahmed Ibrahim Al Tahir, the African Parliamentary Union Speaker RT Honorable Angel Serafin Seriche Dougan Malabo, Speaker of the House of Peoples' Representatives of Equatorial Guinea, and by Pan-African Parliament speaker Dr Idris Ndele Moussa.
The activities of the conference will begin by the works of the executive committee of the conference on Sunday.
Speaker of the Sudanese Parliament Ahmed Ibrahim Tahir told a press conference he held Saturday, that representatives of the Tunisian and Libyan parliaments will take part in the activities of the African Parliamentary Union.
He said the Pan-African parliament is used to setting specific agenda in each session to be reviewed by the African legislators and that this session in particular will focus on two main issues, namely the role of the African parliamentary institutions in cementing solidarity among African countries and the second is the people's participation, especially the youth, in national development with the view to reduce poverty, end exclusion and at the same time boost of equity.
He stated that the conference provides a good opportunity for the participants to carry out consultations on African issues of common concern and getting acquainted with the situation in Sudan.
The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Haggo Gissm Al Seed, has pointed out that this session enjoys considerable participation including 9 parliament speakers, 7 Deputy Speakers, coming from 27 African states as well as 35 female parliamentarians.
He said representatives from the five African Economic Groupings will take part in the meetings of the pan parliament in Khartoum.
