why instantaneous translation is essential during Hajj!!

By: Ahmed Alhaj (Site Admin)

For ordinary Muslims to foster relations away from the yoke of sometimes totalitarian regime, and at the same time to distance themselves from hard-line fundamentalist movements, they have to listen to the moderate Islamic advocated by the Muslims in the holy lands in Saudi Arabia. This could barely be realizable without proper communication and common ground.

To link Muslims to get to know each other and to go away with a psychological satisfaction of the oneness of the Muslim, world, the message they receive has to be the same. You could not expect a Muslim who knows Arabic to go away fully satisfied and psychologically content, while another Muslim (in fact the majority of Muslims today are non Arabic speakers and are not Arab though they may be learning Quran by heart) because of being non Arabic speaking, will go away missing an important part of the gathering.

The Muslims know that some of the most important teachings that the prophet, peace and blessing of Allah be upon him, delivered before his death was during the Hajjat al wadaa (the last Hajj Sermon). It tells you how important it is that in the Hajj, following the path of the prophet; Muslims should listen to a common speech. That element is not possible to conduct if there is lack of communication, lack of common language.

This is what the Holy Koran says about the other benefit of the Hajj, we talked about:

7.And proclaim to mankind the Hajj (pilgrimage). They will come to you on foot and on every lean camel; they will come from every deep and distant (wide) mountain highway (to perform Hajj).[1]

 28. That they may witness things that are of benefit to them (i.e. reward of Hajj in the Hereafter, and also some worldly gain from trade), and mention the Name of Allah on appointed days (i.e. 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th day of Dhul-Hijjah), over the beast of cattle that He has provided for them (for sacrifice), [at the time of their slaughtering by saying: (Bismillah, Wallâhu-Akbar, Allâhumma Minka wa Ilaik).] Then eat thereof and feed therewith the poor having a hard time.

A common language will boost the psychological build up Muslims experience during the hajj. It is highly difficult to see how such a spirit could be build up without a commond denominator. In the current situation some Muslims enjoy the beauty of the sermons and the duaa and incantations being recited while other will enjoy nothing but the music of the language: that is not a magsad. This is one of the reasons the item written by ustaza Ishraga Abas, Interview, draws its strength and its beauty: instantaneous translation should be given a try to help not only the over one million Muslims that come from non Arabic speaking countries, but for the over billion who follow each utterance made during the Hajj, may Allah reward us the chance to perform it next year. Amen
