Statement by the Embassy of the United States of America on the Visit of U.S. Special Envoy Scott Gration to Port Sudan
Khartoum, Sudan (sundanow.info)The Embassy of the United States of America announces that U.S. Special Envoy to Sudan Scott Gration visited Port Sudan on February 4-5, 2011 .
The purpose of the visit to eastern Sudan was to meet with local political and humanitarian officials. In that regard he had very productive meetings with representatives of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the World Health Organization (WHO) and visited sites for provision of clean water as well as a local health care clinic .
He also met respectively with the Ministers of Health and Education of the Red Sea State.
The Special Envoy concluded his visit with a tour of the port facility guided by the General Manager. The Special Envoy’s visit was fully approved by and was closely coordinated with the Sudanese authorities in Khartoum.
The Special Envoy is grateful to have had the opportunity to learn more about Port Sudan and its great potential as one of Sudan's most important economic centers
