Army clashes with rebel killing dozens and sizing vehicles in a two hour battle in Darfur

Khartoum, Sudan (SUDANOW) - The army clashed with Darfur rebels in Darfur, resulting in the death of twenty seven including two from the army side, and the injury of dozens others.
The official spokesman of the Sudan Armed Forces, Colonel Sawarmi Khalid, said his troops on Thursday attacked locations held by Darfur rebels at Al-Sharfa area, eastern Jabal Marra area and “destroying rebel forces in a battle which lasted for two hours”
In a statement carried by the Sudan news agency (SUNA) , Col. Sawarmi said that the attack “comes within the context of the of operations carried out by the Armed Forces to open roads and to secure villages at eastern Jabal Marra from remnants of the movement of Abdul-Wahid Nur and bandits of Meni Arku Menawi and other rebels “.
He said Sudanese army killed 25 rebels and wounded a huge number of other, seizing four Land- Cruiser vehicles belonging to the rebels, while at the same time it sustained two dead and that 10 army troops were injured in the battle.”
He stressed that the Armed Forces will continue its operations to destroy all the rebels of Abdul-Wahid, Meni Arku Menawi and the other bandits for the sake of securing citizens and opening roads.
