London, (Sudanow) – The British parliament has stated that it has found no ground for accusations by the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court alleging President Omar Al Bashir has amassed nine billion dollars in one British bank, hinting that its investigations have discredited the ICC prosecutor.
The Government was responding in writing to a question asked by Lord Ahmed, asking her Majesty government about steps it has taken to investigate the ICC allegations.
The parliament record stated that Lord Ahmed, a British Mp, tabled a question to the government “to ask Her Majesty’s Government what steps they have taken to investigate claims that President al-Bashir of Sudan has US$ 9 billion in bank accounts held by the Lloyds Banking Group; and what were their conclusions. [HL6169]”.
He also specifically tabled another question “to ask Her Majesty’s Government what is their assessment of the statement by Lloyds Banking Group that there is no evidence that President al-Bashir of Sudan has US$ 9 billion in bank accounts held by the Lloyds Banking Group. [HL6171]”
The British government, according to parliament record answer was:
“Lord Sassoon: Lloyds Banking Group has conducted their own internal investigation into the claim that President al-Bashir holds accounts with the group, and is confident that the group does not hold any account for Mr al-Bashir or any individuals or entities associated with him. The Financial Services Authority has reviewed this report and has not raised any further concerns.”
