Statement attributable to the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Mr. Ali Al-Za’tari

A press release by the UN office in Khartoum said the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Mr. Ali Al-Za’tari, was "extremely concerned by the abduction of representatives of internally displaced people (IDPs) traveling under UN-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) escort" from Zalingei in Central Darfur to Nyala, South Darfur, to attend a conference on internal displacement. The release said according to media reports, the abduction was "carried out by the Sudan Liberation Army’s Abdul Wahid Nur faction." It said Mr. Al-Za’tari has urged the "immediate release" of the abducted persons, expressing hope that the combined efforts of the Government of Sudan and UNAMID will ensure their safe return." Mo
