KHARTOUM, (Sudanow) - President Bashir has instructed his government that southerners fleeing away from fighting in their country be treated well in Sudan.
South Sudanese Foreign Minister Bernaba Benjamin, who arrived here Thursday on an official visit, met on the day of his arrival President Omar al-Bashir as well as the Foreign and Interior ministers.
The official Sudan news agency Foreign Minister Benjamin said he had conveyed to President Bashir a message from President Salva Kiir Mayardit thanking the former as well as the Sudanese government and people for the support and assistance the Sudan has offered South Sudan.
He said the message dealt with the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Ahmed Karti said after the meeting with his South Sudanese counterpart that their talks reviewed the progress of implementation of the bilateral agreements and ways for speeding up the implementation process.
Karti said he had also discussed with Benjamin the presence of the South Sudanese nationals in the Sudan before and after the current developments in South Sudan, noting to Benjamin that President Bashir has issued instructions for opening up opportunities for the South Sudanese to benefit from the four freedoms agreements which permit residence, work, ownership and movement of the nationals of each of the two countries in the other.
Benjamin said his country is looking forward to further bilateral cooperation in addition to strengthening the social ties between the two peoples.
The visiting Foreign Minister and the Sudanese Interior Minister Abdul Wahid Yusuf Ibrahim stressed at a separate meeting willingness by the two governments for cooperation in all spheres, particularly in the police and humanitarian fields to serve the interests of the countries.
Ibrahim said his Ministry is committed to instructions by President Bashir for offering the South Sudanese refugees a generous treatment.
He also said the Interior Ministry is willing to extend the police experience to the police of South Sudan. Benjamin expressed optimism that the conflict would be resolved like all other conflicts that occurred in African countries.
The present government of Salva Kiir was elected by the people and would only be changed by the people rather than a military coup, Benjamin said, reassuring that the oilfields are safe and secure.
