25 October, 2014By: Aisha Braima
Khartoum (Sudanow) The General Conference of the ruling National Congress Party has officially endorsed incumbent president Omer al-Bashir as party Chairman and its candidate for the coming presidential elections slated for April 2015.
According to the results of the vote announced Saturday night Bashir won 4425 out of 4604.
He had been nominated for the posts earlier by his party's Consultative Council (Shoura) pending today's approval of the 3-day General Conference.
Delegations from more than 50 countries attended the deliberations of the National Congress's conference. Bashir considered this, as well as his recent visits to Saudi Arabia and Egypt, as evidence that the Sudan has managed to frustrate attempts aiming at isolating it.
