28 October, 2015By: Aisha Braima
KHARTOUM (SUDANOW) - President Omer al-Bashir left Wednesday for New Delhi to participate in the third Indian-African Summit which will kick off Thursday.
Al-Bashir is leading a delegation comprises Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Badr Eddeen Muhmood, Minister of Water Resources and Electricity Mutaz Musa and State Minister at the Presidency Fadul Abdalla.
Foreign Minister, Prof. Ibrahim Ghandour arrived in India Monday to take part in the Foreign Ministers meeting that precedes the official opening of the summit.
Ghandour said President al-Bashir will hold bilateral meetings with a number of Heads of State including the Indian Prime Minister.
India invited the 54 African nations and expects 40 to be represented by their Heads of State or Government. Therefore, the summit is described by some media outlets as the biggest gathering of foreign dignitaries in New Delhi since the 1983 Non-Aligned Summit.
The first India-Africa summit was held in New Delhi in 2008 and the second in Addis Ababa in 2011 with participation of only representatives from select African nations.
