National Dialogue Concludes Sessions With A Promising All-Inclusive Document
10 October, 2016KHARTOUM (Sudanow.info.sd) – President Omer Bashir renewed on Monday commitment to implement the recommendations of the National Dialogue Conference (NDC) embodied in the National Document.
He stressed no violence is tolerated any more in Sudanese politics after the endorsement of the Document.
Bashir made the statement during the closing session of the NDC which started in January 2014 upon a proposal he tabled to discuss prominent problems facing the nation since independence namely the system of rule, the national economy, external relations, identity and peace.
The occasion was attended by the President of Egypt, Field Marshal Abdul-Fattah Al-Sisi, the Chadian President Idris Debby, the Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel-Aziz and the Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni as well as representatives of some other countries and regional and international organizations.
The recommendations emphasized cooperation between all Sudanese to overcome the country's crisis and establish a permanent constitution and legislation that will guarantee freedoms, rights and social justice for all citizens. The recommendations also call for enacting necessary procedures to prepare for conducting fair elections. All political detainees should be released and right of expression should be guaranteed to prepare for a conducive atmosphere for the coming change.
Al-Bashir declared in his speech extension of cease fire to the end of this year calling on the hold out armed movements and political opposition to stop warring and join the National Document.
In consideration for these groups, the United States urged the government to consider the National Dialogue a first phase, and to engage with the opposition for its participation in an inclusive dialogue process, as prescribed in the Road-map agreement negotiated by the African Union High Implementation Panel (AUHIP) which the government and opposition have signed. It said ending the dialogue at this stage could seriously impede negotiations of cessations of hostilities agreements with the armed opposition and could derail the completion of the AUHIP Road-map.
The Future Forces of Change, which is opposing to the National Dialogue since its start, surprised the conferees by joining the ND hours before its closing session and signing the National Document on Sunday. The groups incorporate 40 parties including the Just Peace Forum of al-Taya Mustafa.
Despite his steadfast opposition to join Sadig al-Mahdi, leader of the National Umma Party, sent a message to the conferees saying the ND recommendations will pave the way for a good governance and a national constitution if they are duly implemented. He stressed the need for stopping the war and realizing peace and democratic change.
The President also mentioned at the closing session of the dialogue that he has received a phone call from al-Mahdi.
