Kuala Lumpur Summit Kicks off in Khartoum

KHARTOUM (Sudanow.info.sd) - Kuala Lumpur Summit 2016 stared Thursday at the Friendship Hall, Khartoum, under the theme of “Good Governance: Islamic view”.
Former Malaysian Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, Chairman of the Summit, arrived Wednesday in Khartoum, the Sudanese capital, accompanied by a number of officials and the Summit members.
The forum was initiated by Dr. Mohamad in 2014 to discuss main challenges that face the Islamic countries by Muslim thinkers and scholars who will sit for a month to layout out their recommendations
and then submit them to the influential persons in the Arab and Islamic countries.
KL Summit 2014 and 2015 were held in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur. The first one discussed the concept of “civil state” in Islam while the second tackled freedom and democracy.
The current third session of KL Summit will discuss forms of governance in the Islamic countries and ways to improve them. The three-day session will also promote the launching of an annual award named “the Mahathir Mohamed International Award” to recognize the best research on how to implement good governance in Islamic countries.
The prize consists of three prizes: The major prize award of merit and certificate of appreciation (20.000$), incentive award ( Youth and Women) 5.000$ for each one of them.
