Registration for Darfur Administrative Referendum Completed

KHARTOUM (SUDANOW) - Darfur Administrative Referendum Commission on Monday said the first phase of registration for the Darfur referendum was completed in the region.
This phase will be followed with a 3-day period of challenging the lists of registration, according to the Deputy Chairperson of the Commission Major General Abdul Aziz al-Samani.
Al Samani told the Sudanese Media Center (SMC) that the Commission has reached the target figure as over 3 million eligible voters (almost half of the region population) who are at the age of 18 year and above, turned out and registered their names.
The people of Darfur will vote in April whether their area will become one region or retain the present 5-state administrative system.
The referendum is stipulated in the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur which was signed in 2011 under of the UN, the AU, and the Arab league and was hosted by Qatar.
