Sudanese Foreign Ministry Summoned US Acting Charge d'Affaires

KHARTOUM (SUDANOW) - The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday summoned the acting US Charge d'Affaires in Khartoum and conveyed strong rejection to the erroneous US State Department's statement on Darfur administrative referendum.

The Ministry's Undersecretary Ambassador Abdul-Ghani Al-Naeem told the diplomat that the statement contradicted the on-going peace efforts and the real situation on the ground. The statement was issued following the government's signing of the road-map document with the rebels and which was welcomed by the US administration, al-Naeem added.

He said the statement came as a complementary measure to the false promises repeatedly uttered by the American Administration.

The Ministry refuted Monday these allegations saying the registration of the eligible voters was the largest ever in the history of Darfur where 3.5 million, out of 4 million eligible voters, have registered for participation in the referendum including the IDPs.

Refuting the insecurity allegation, the Ministry said the recent tour by President Omar al-Beshir of all parts of Darfur without facing any security incident proved that the security prevails all over the region.
