Al-Bashir, who left for Addis Ababa same day accompanied by Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour and State Minister at the Ministry Obiedalla Mohamed Obiedalla, attended the honouring ceremony which was organized at Nelson Mandela Hall at Addis Ababa University.
The Initiative is a partnership between the University of Peace which is affiliated to the UN and has branches in a number of African countries, the Islamic International Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ISESCO), the Peace and Studies on Conflicts at the University of Addis Ababa and the Sudanese Peace and Human Rights Centre.

A number of African activists including university vice chancellors, professors of law and politicians have taken part in the ceremony which included theatrical performances, singing and dancing.
