07 September, 2016By: Aisha Braima
AL-FASHIR, North Darfur (Sudanow.info.sd) – In the presence of Qatar Emir and presidents of Chad and Central Africa, the Sudan on Wednesday organized celebrations marking the end of implementation of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD).
President Omar Bashir arrived there early Wednesday for welcoming his guests the Heads of State of Central Africa, Faustin-Archange Touadera, Chad, Idris Debi and Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
He thanked, in his address before the gathering, Qatar for its relentless efforts for achieving peace in Darfur region since the signing of the DDPD in July 2011 indicating particularly the role of Qatari Deputy Prime Minister Ahmed bin Abdalla Al Mahmoud.
Al-Bashir then chanted “Thank you Qatar. Thank you Qatar” while the people repeated after him.
He said the leaders of Sudan and Chad had surpassed the era of disaccord between the two neighbouring countries and built good bilateral relations including the joint armed forces patrolling the border area and which are now considered a model in Africa for attaining security and stability on border areas.
He declared general pardon for everyone who lay down arms. The president also announced the immediate release of all child soldiers who have been captured in Goz Dungo Battle.
Chadian President Debi hailed Sudan and Qatar leaderships for sponsoring the DDPD till it was materialized on the ground urging the armed movements to join the peace process and the international community to sport the document in order to make it a model for the African countries in conflict resolution.
Sheikh Tamim has meanwhile been decorated with an honorary doctorate awarded by Khartoum's Al-Nilein University in recognition of his contribution to the efforts for peace in Darfur.
Signed in July 2011 between the government of Sudan and the Liberation and Justice Movement of Dr. al-Tijani al-Sesi, the DDPD provisions included implementation of 1071 projects in Darfur including returnee villages and various services projects and other programmes.
