China Extends $60m to Support Sudan’s Agricultural Sector
22 September, 2016KHARTOUM (Sudanow.info.sd) – The Chinese government has granted $ 60 million to Sudan to boost strategic partnership between the two countries in the field of agricultural investments.
The grant was announced Thursday by Chinese Minister of Agriculture Han Changfu who is currently visiting Sudan accompanied by a high delegation comprised of a number of Chinese investors and representatives of Chandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Cotton Research Centre and Agricultural Mechanization Academy.
Addressing the Sudanese-Chinese Forum for Boosting Agricultural Cooperation and Investment, which opened here on Thursday at al-Salam Rotana Hotel within the 3rd session of the meetings of the Sudanese-Chinese Ministerial Committee, Changfu said his country is keen to invest in Sudan in all fields in consolidation for the historic and developed bilateral ties. More than 27 Chinese institutions are investing in the agricultural fields in Sudan, he added.
Changfu expressed his country’s readiness to import Sudanese products which meet the specified technical requirements and exempt them from customs fees.
Meanwhile, Sudanese agricultural Minister Prof. Ibrahim al-Dikhairi said 80 agricultural and animal investment projects have been submitted to the Chinese side.
The delegation will sign investments agreements during the three-day visit and visit the Gazera and Rahad agricultural schemes as well as GIAD Industrial area.
