Rapid Forces Save Victims of Human Trafficking
09 January, 2017KHARTOUM (Sudanow.info.sd) - The commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Gen Mohamed Hamdan Dalgo (commonly known as Hemaidti) has said his forces have prevented over fifteen hundred people from crossing into Libya and from there to the West, within Sudan’s efforts of combating human trafficking.
The forces which on Saturday announced the apprehension of a huge number of victims of human trafficking, has on Sunday brought them from the desert areas to Khartoum where they were shown to journalists and reporters.
“We have so far apprehended more than 1500 since May last year, including women, children and men within our operations of combating illegal migration and human trafficking” Dalgo said in the briefing.
The RSF are forces affiliated to the Sudanese National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS), trained, armed and set to fight rebels in the restive Darfur region. However, since May last year, the rapid forces, known for its agility, speed and quick maneuverability, moved to border areas, especially north western Sudan to obstruct human trafficking and illegal migration.
Dalgo said not only does his force combat illegal migration and human trafficking, but equally combat all forms of fundamentalism, and smuggling of weapons to neighboring countries.
He said Europeans and Americans have to know that Sudan was leading these activities on their behalf as the Sudan is only a transit country.
“If we turn a blind eye or let go, not only thousands, millions will cross into Europe", he warned.
He called on the international community to work for lifting the sanctions imposed on the Sudan as these sanctions have negatively reflected on the Sudanese communities and people around the country.
He stressed the international community has to know that Sudan works for combating human trafficking and illegal migration and that the international community has to appreciate their efforts and lift the economic sanctions imposed on the Sudan.
He said those apprehended included Somali, Ethiopian and Eritrean nationals who were heading for Europe via Libya, transiting across the Sudan.
He drew a tragic picture of the suffering of the illegal migrants and human trafficking operation.
