Unique Parables from the Battlefields

Port Sudan Sudanow
This is the story of Muhammad Shams al-Din Abdel-Wahhab, a young men probably in his early twenties, has seen himself transformed from a toddler to a young boy, to a university student and lo! to a fierce fighter, all in a blink of an eye or so it seems.
His father, Major General Shams al-Din Abdel-Wahhab, was among those besieged at the army headquarters along with few army officers on that day the 15th of April 2023. He wanted to help break the siege and see his dad out. No motive could be greater for a young adult.
On the morning of April 15, 2023, Major General Shams al-Din, because of an internal betrayal from yesterday’s colleagues in arms, found himself all of a sudden one of a few officers besieged within the buildings of the General Command, where he remained in cut off from the rest of the world during all those tumultuous hours and days and months.
Outside and some 26 kilometers away, in the historic island of Aslanj in the northern countryside, north of the Omdurman-one of three towns forming the trainable national capital- and adjacent to the Sudanese Military College with its various academies, young men were soaked in their sweat and dust covering the training suits, their eyes filled with determination and their skin tightened and their muscles hardened.
It was from this island of Aslanj, famous for its 150 year old Qorani schools that graduated scholars and sheikhs, under the able handed spiritual leadership of Sheikh Al-Ubaid Wad Badr, which this time saw the first batch of volunteers who came out to say they wanted to be part of the popular groups that would be the backup for the Sudanese national Army in its battle to repulse the rebels, now earnestly and ruthlessly starting to attack civilians in lieu of the soldiers. That was in late December 2023.
Muhammad junior was one of the graduates. His journey towards an emotional encounter with his father, months and months later, started from that graduation ceremony.
Journey for Father’s Sake
Spurred by the unexpressed love for his father, a loyalty that could not be expressed in words, Muhammad entered the training camps and developed his capabilities, from an emancipated youth to a fully developed all muscles young men. That was what he thought that you could not go into a battle without preparing for it. Emotions alone will not serve in the battle field, especially when those you would be facing were ruthless, infiltrated by mercenaries and thugs.
To join those mobilized one has to receive a minimum of training and tough and rigorous training for that matter. And Muhammad accepted and passed the test. His motive was high.
Then he joined the volunteers and, from one battle to another, and from one leap to another. There was no time to think, not time to go back, days after days and months after months, almost thirteen months, inch by inch, and mile after mile, sacrifices and suffering from December 2023
And this morning in January 2025, Muhammad was on of the first to arrive to greet his father, Major General Shams El-Din. The army and the regular forces have broken the siege and chased away the militia, He then started looking to see if father was alive and still there. And he found him, tall and pround among proud officers.
This was a special kind of piety, as the father showed loyalty to the homeland and remained committed to the General Command, in one of the most resolute experiences in history, and the son showed loyalty to his father and homeland as he walked through the alleys, bullets raining down and the smoke of battles filling the horizon, fearless he advanced with his brothers in arms and in faith.
Walking on the same path, history will record a page of heroism, sacrifice and the value of piety and loyalty. Chapters of suffering, fear and anxiety experienced by the Sudanese in general and the families of officers and soldiers inside the General Command of the Armed People's Forces, since the first day of the outbreak of war, April 15, 2024.
But we need to leave Muhammad relish the moment when he entered with the volunteers to the headquarters of the armed forces, after vicious fighting and deadly firepower poured upon them he spotted his father. It was a moment beyond description. A father who was besieged for months was expecting but to martyr, to see his own flesh who was never a soldier among those who rescued him and broke the siege!!
- Yet other parables
On that day, the 15th of April 2023,, Brigadier General Ismail Al-Tayeb Abu Qamri was in the Hattab camp north of Khartoum, when a warplane led by Major General Talal Al-Reeh hissed and jolted the building and surrounding over his head. Suddenly, the MiG plane pierced the clouds, nosedived and unleashes its wrath to destroy the Rapid Support Tower in central Khartoum.
Here, Abu Qamri, the paratrooper officer, realized that the war had actually started. Now his mind started racing and making calculations and synthesis for a quick decision: He was aware that the force inside the offices of the Sudanese Armed Forces General Command building would not be able to hold for a long time and to stave off the waves after waves of the RSF militias attacking.
He was also aware that the life of the president of the Sovereign Council-cum-commander in chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) who was inside the command at the time, was under serious threat. It was also true that the whole country was on the brink of seriously falling apart if the symbols of its sovereignty were to fall apart, this place was the center that held the whole country together at that time.
Al-Muhaqqiq news website, reported that it was on the spur of that moment that the general, Abu Qamri, ordered the formation of a company of snipers, well armed and loyal troops and led them on board 80 4X4 and other agile military vehicles. Time was precious and surprise was needed. The troops then made their way from the Hattab area north of Khartoum across the bridge linking the cities of Khartoum and Bahri, then turned left and fought a quick and decisive battle with a force of the rebel militia that almost took control of the Guest House.
Qamri force opened fire on them and crushed a second group, which was an advanced cannon for maneuver, an extremely lethal tactic that requires a defensive force that is characterized by courage and caution, and that unit of his actually succeeded in penetrating the enemy's defenses in a narrow area north of Khartoum University tunnel.
This was actually the first battle in this war in which he defeated the rebel militia, and a few hours after the battle of the Presidential Guards. The unit then swiftly assumed defensive missions with some skirmishes whenever the opportunity arose to confuse the enemy.
The militia leader-commander was confident that his forces were close and that Burhan had to surrender.
Here, the Arms Crops, present around the command, clashed with the militias in almost man to man direct physical fighting to the point of using the final available protective arsenal.
The command then took a mobile attack position, especially after the arrival of the mobile brigadier general Othman Kabashi on the second day of the fighting, coming from Mount Scarab, with the commander of the volunteers under Ammar Siddiq from the Ninth Airborne Division.
This force transferred the battle to an attack and was able make its way into the general command offices, to break the tight circle of siege formed by the militias, a tactic known as the (Karl von) in converting the attack in a strong and rapid manner, which is the most intelligent point in defense.
When it fought confrontations similar to Operation (Matstein Donbass in 1943 between the Germans and the Russians when the Russians launched a number of successful attacks after their counterattack on Stalingrad, and those attacks were crowned with a set of plans to force the German forces to retreat.
According to Al-Muhaqqiq, Brigadier General Abu Qamri remained within the walls of the General Command for about 639 days and contributed, among other units that arrived later, to establish the command that stood firm with legendary steadfastness, while living and suffering the horrors of war with all its deadly details under siege, rain and hunger.
Third parsable
Gen Burhan remained there for about five months before he appeared in the city of Omdurman, surprising everybody, but the General Staff remained within the command with all its officers, steering the ship of the battle and leading the war operations to this day.
Military experts say that the Sudanese Armed Forces have demonstrated high professionalism and rare competence in dealing with the plan despite the siege of the leadership and the occupation of all important sites and even the siege and occupation of airports and placing the headquarters of the army and the commander at the mercy of the fire of the rebel militia.
Still the troops, private and junior officers armed with their military instinct, high professionalism and courage, presented the most wonderful examples of sacrifices in thwarting the plan that was aimed to destroy the Sudanese state.
Some of them sacrificed their lives for the sake of the homeland and the existence of Sudan, and some of them were seriously injured and amputated and endured pain under the burden of the siege and the lack of medicine and food, and some of them received injuries that left them paralyzed for the rest of their lives, causing them permanent disabilities.
Those who sacrificed their lives included 35 officers, the Presidential Guards who sacrificed their lives to protect the supreme commander, their commander who is a symbol of sovereignty. They made sure he was led to safety away from the gunfire of the mercenaries. The army command’s powerful brain was then able to operate and to discharge its duties and the mauling teeth continued do turn on and on until the current total demise of the rebel militia
It is an impossible story, but developments have proven that the Sudanese people were capable of making it come true.
